US News & World Report Names Dominican a Top School in the West

For 2005, U.S. News & World Report has named Dominican University of California as one of the top universities in the West providing a full range of undergraduate and master’s-level programs. This is the second time in three years that Dominican has been listed as a top school in the “Western Universities— Master’s” category. The University ranked 35 out of 58 in the top tier.

"Although rankings of this type are only one indication of the quality of our University, we are pleased to be recognized," said Dominican University of California President Joseph R. Fink.

The ranking coincides with the highest enrollment in the University’s 114-year history. Total enrollment for fall 2004 is 1,977, which breaks last fall’s record enrollment of 1,766. The fall 2004 figure represents a 182 percent increase in the past 10 years.

U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges is an annual examination of 1,400 American colleges and universities. The 572 universities in the master’s category are ranked within four geographic areas —North, South, Midwest, and West. The 129 master’s universities in the West are located in Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Rankings are based on a number of factors, including peer assessment, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving rate.
