Stuart C. Jones Named Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Dominican University of California
Dominican University of California President Joseph R. Fink has appointed Stuart C. Jones as vice president for institutional advancement, effective September 1. Jones brings to his new post 13 years experience as the chief development officer at two universities. Since 2002, Jones has served as vice president of development at Sonoma State University and as president of the Sonoma State University Academic Foundation.
"Dominican University's commitment to providing its multicultural student body with an international, liberal arts and science education holds great appeal to me," said Jones. "I am honored to join President Fink's staff and look forward to working with the faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to help build upon the University's already impressive record of achievements. At the same time I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to have worked with such wonderful colleagues and friends at Sonoma State University."
In his three years at Sonoma State University, Jones has been responsible for the university's overall development and alumni activities. He has also led the campaign to build the Donald & Maureen Green Music Center, the $63 million performing arts center and academic facility. Since 2002, Jones has helped raise over $45 million dollars in gifts and pledges and helped secure the university's single largest current gift, largest planned gift, and first funded endowed chair.
"Stuart Jones brings a wealth of experience in fundraising to this position," said Dr. Fink in making the announcement. "In addition to his outstanding fundraising accomplishments, he has proven his leadership in strengthening and diversifying trustee and foundation boards, expanding alumni and outreach programs, attracting corporate and community leaders to his institutions, and strengthening the role of the university in the community."
From 1992 to 2002, Jones led the advancement office at Southern Utah University, serving as assistant to the president and from 1997 to 2002 as vice president of Advancement and Regional Services. During his 10 years at Southern Utah University, he led two successful comprehensive capital campaigns, helping to raise nearly $60 million for student scholarships, academic and athletic facilities, endowment, student housing, and faculty development.
Prior to entering the advancement field, Jones practiced law with one of Utah's largest law firms and worked as a campaign coordinator for two successful U.S. Senate campaigns.
Jones holds a BA from Southern Utah University, an MBA from Utah State University, and an MPA and JD from the University of Utah.
