Dr. Dan Moshavi named new Dean of School of Business and Leadership at Dominican University

“I am very pleased to welcome Dan Moshavi as the next academic leader of the School of Business and Leadership,” said Dr. Luis Calingo, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Dominican. “As the past business dean, I am very confident that he will lead the business school not only to initial accreditation by the Association to Advance Business Schools (AACSB International), but also to a higher level of competitiveness, distinctiveness, and excellence.”

Dr. Moshavi comes to Dominican from Montana State University, where he serves as dean of the College of Business.  Under his leadership, the college has generated new interdisciplinary initiatives, including a master’s degree in science and engineering management, created customized executive education programs, and increased student professional development opportunities. An accomplished fundraiser, Moshavi has helped secure major gifts for a named center for entrepreneurship, a business communications clinic, and scholarships.

He connects with people and is a team builder.  His open door to the community, facilitates exchanges among business leaders, students, faculty and alumni, while enhancing student learning and internships, and focusing faculty research to meet business needs.”

Moshavi’s academic discipline is in management and organizational behavior. His research focuses on how organizations, especially service organizations, manage their critical “touch points” with both employees and customers. As a member of Montana State’s faculty since 2000, he has taught a variety of courses and won more than a dozen teaching awards during his career. He is a faculty member in an executive master’s program in humanitarian logistics at the University of Lugano in Switzerland, and was previously a faculty member at San Jose State University and a research fellow with the Nemours Center for Medical Leadership.

Dr. Moshavi has consulted for a variety of large and small organizations, including Nike and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He received his Ph.D. in management from the University of Oregon as well as master's and bachelor's degrees from George Washington University in Washington DC.

Dr. Moshavi is a former resident of Tiburon in Marin County. In 1989, he became Director of Communications for Graham and James law firm in San Francisco before forming his own communications business based in Tiburon in 1992.

The School of Business and Leadership consists of 440 business students in a program that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including Master of Business Administration degrees in Global Management, Strategic Leadership and Sustainable Enterprise (GreenMBA). The SBL, which has the largest number of graduate students on campus, has 10 full-time and 33 part-time faculty members, the vast majority of which have post-graduate degrees, with 22 holding doctorate.

It houses three interdisciplinary centers of excellence: The Institute for Leadership Studies, the Environmental Finance Center for EPA Region 9 and the Center for Sustainability. The SBL also is host of the North Bay U.S. Export Assistance Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
