Meet the Staff

Our mission: As educators, mentors, and advocates, the Student Life Staff at Dominican University of California encourages and supports students in the integration of their intellectual, spiritual, social, ethical, and physical development. In helping students to become members of the campus community, the staff fosters their leadership skills, life competencies, and the embodiment of the Dominican traditions and ideals.

Dr. Paul Raccanello serves as the Dean of Students and the Chief Student Affairs Officer at Dominican University of California. He is responsible for the staff, programs, budgets, and overall leadership and direction for the Division of Student Affairs; Career and Internship Services, Campus Ministry, Residence Life, Student Activities & Leadership, Student Health and Counseling Services, and Student Rights & Responsibilities. Beyond his work in Student Affairs, Dr. Raccanello also has extensive experience within the following areas of higher education: admissions and enrollment management, athletics, legal issues/compliance, Title IX, diversity, and campus safety and crisis management.

Emily Stickel is an alumna of Dominican and works as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Paul Raccanello and all of Student Life. She is in charge of all administrative duties within the Student Life department, including greeting visitors, supply orders, keeping meeting minutes, and website maintenance. She is also the contact for scheduling meetings with Levi Shanks and Dr. Paul Raccanello.

As the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Levi aims to develop, dissiminate, interpret, review and uphold institutional policies and the student code of conduct and aid students in developing a sense of advocacy and personal authority in their lives.

Lauren is the advisor to the student government, Associated Students of Dominican University (ASDU) and student clubs and organizations. She works with student groups to plan campus-wide activities, such as free bowling and billiards nights, and collaborates with other Dominican departments to put on joint events for students, such as Shield Day and Midnight Madness. Lauren has also worked with faculty to present leadership activities in classrooms and has led student leadership retreats.

 As Director of Residence Life, Loralie is in charge of managing the general operations of the on-campus residence halls; hiring, training, and supervising Resident Advisors and the Residence Life Assistant Graduate Director; developing and disseminating housing and Residence Life related communications to the campus community; maintaining housing records and housing assignments.

Fr. Bob Haberman is the Director of Campus Ministry and an Associate Professor of Religious Studies.  In addition to teaching two courses a semester, he conducts many of the religious services on campus, coordinates the Campus Ministry program and staff, and is available to all members of the Dominican community for spiritual support.

Lianni is in charge of the Alternative Spring Break Trips and El Salvador Immersion Trip, serves as Music Director for Sunday Liturgy, is involved in programs that promote the Dominican Ideals and Spiritual Engagement, and advises the Siena Leadership Team.

As campus minister, Sr. Christina promotes the Dominican heritage and ideals of reflection, service, community, and study, and facilitates the spiritual engagement and development of students and staff. Sr. Christina is a Dominican Sister of San Rafael, continuing the long tradition of the Sisters' relationship with, and support of, the University, from its founding to now.

As the Career Services Manager, Vanessa assists students and alumni in developing effective career planning skills to achieve their desired career goals and promote lifelong career development. She possesses over 5 years of industry knowledge working in the non-profit and education sectors. Vanessa is very passionate about sharing her knowledge and resources with students and graduates so they can become self-sufficient in their job search and she welcomes them to participate in the various career-related activities that are offered in the department: individual, group or phone counseling appointments, career workshops, self-assessments and other career/campus events.

We welcome all students to Student Health, regardless of insurance. We provide health education, immunizations, TB testing, emergency response on campus, assist FNP and MD, order labs, and assistance with navigating health insurance and referrals. We also host flu shot clinics, STI testing, blood drives, and other health events. Please stop in or call if you have any questions or concerns. Everything is confidential.
