Penguins tab first victory in 15-0 Blowout

San Rafael, CA - The Dominican Women's Soccer team ended their losing streak with a 15-0 blowout against Pacific Union.  The Penguin defense stifled the Pioneers, not allowing a shot. Tina Ghirarduzzi led the offensive explosion and played 16 minutes at goalie.  Freshman Christina Freitas and junior Ariel Esqueda both scored two goals and had one assist while junior Annalisa Hopper scored two goals also.  The Lady Penguins resume Cal Pac conference play Saturday at 1:00 PM versus Bethany University.

2005 Soccer Season Looks to build upon success and learning

Led by 2003 Cal Pac Coach of the Year, Ralph Montes, the 2005 Women's Soccer Team is ready to show what a year of experience can do.Carrying six freshmen on the team last year, the 2004 Lady Penguin squad learned quickly what college soccer was all about.  This year, the  team is anchored by senior defensive standout Chelsea Weighall and midfielder junior Tina Ghirarduzzi, both who earned Cal Pac All-Conference recognition.

Losing one key player of the 2004 season to graduation, Montes' team returns an excellent crop of key returners, including defender Annalisa Hopper, forward Dominique Campbell, and midfielders Stacy Krikorian and Bev Kit, and an excellent mix of new recruits, including freshman Emily Birdsall and basketball player Jennifer Jackson.

The team enters play in late August with a trip north to Oregon to play NAIA powerhouses Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University, as well as a pre-season scrimmage against San Francisco State University.  Montes believes the tough competition early on will prepare his now-seasoned squad for a strong run in the California Pacific Conference.  It will certainly be an exciting year for Lady Penguin Soccer.
