About Our Honorees

  • David “Moorsey” Moore, retired jersey No. 13, put Dominican men’s basketball on the map … all the way to Australia. Moore played basketball from 2002–2006, helping lead the Penguins to all four of their California Pacific Conference Championships and an NAIA Division II “Sweet 16” national appearance in 2005. While at Dominican, Moore became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,795 points, career leader in rebounds (730), free throws made (420), field goal percentage (.653), and blocked shots (90). During his final three seasons, Moore was named an NAIA All-American and California Pacific Conference MVP.

  • John Paul “JP” McCarvel, retired jersey No. 10, was a cornerstone of Dominican men’s soccer from 2002 to 2005. McCarvel became the Penguins’ all-time leading scorer with 49 goals over 75 matches. In 2003, he led the California Pacific Conference with 16 goals, and was a four-time Cal Pac Player of the Week and  a four-time member of the California Pacific Conference All-Conference team. In 2005, he led the Penguins to the Cal Pac title.

  • Jennifer Rogers Fernandez, retired jersey No. 5, led the Dominican women’s basketball team to success from 1991 to 1995. She made the All-America team in 1994 and 1995. She held the all-time basketball scoring record with 1,487 points until 2006 when it was broken by Moore. She remains the all-time scoring leader for women’s basketball and is the leader in women’s basketball in field goals made and attempted (652/1,234), scoring average (18.8 points, minimum 30 games), field goal percentage (.528, 652/1,234, minimum 150 fg), free throws made and attempted (186/287), rebounds (940) and rebounding average (11.9, minimum 25 games), and steals (234). In 1992, she tallied a school-high 25-rebound game at Simpson College. She scored 37 points (16/24, 5/6) at Simpson on Dec. 9, 1994, making 12 field goals in a row.   During the 1994–95 season, Rogers made 208 field goals and ended the season with 491 points.

  • Coach Bill Treseler brought great success to Dominican basketball from 2000 to 2005, compiling an outstanding 118–53 record and a 71–10 conference mark. Treseler led the Penguins to the program’s first three California Pacific Conference Championships and was named Cal Pac Coach of the Year three consecutive seasons from 2003 to 2005. In his final year as head coach, Treseler took the Penguins to their third straight Cal Pac Championship and to a “Sweet 16” appearance in the NAIA Division II National Tournament.  From 2005 to 2006, Treseler also served as Director of Athletics.

  • Sister Marion Irvine, O.P., the “Flying Nun,” has been a strong supporter of Dominican and is an accomplished runner. Sister Marion qualified for the 1983 U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon; shattered all major running records in the 50–54, 55–59, and 60–64 age groups; and earned five gold medals at the World Veteran Games in Eugene, Ore.
