Saburo Kido Memorial Scholarship
Every applicant must be an active National JACL member at either an Individual or Student/Youth Level. Parent membership will not meet this requirement. For more information about membership categories, please contact the JACL Membership Department at National Headquarters at “mbr@jacl.org”. Applicants must be planning to attend full time at a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning within the United States at the undergraduate or graduate school level in the fall of 2009. Students deferring enrollment will not qualify for the 2009 scholarship program. Applicants may apply under only 1 scholarship category. Entering Freshman applicants must be high school seniors. Financial criteria: Applicant living independently must have an annual income below $30,000 (without dependents) or below $60,000 (with dependents); or if living with parents, applicant’s parents must have an annual income below $60,000. Applicant must submit a personal statement (not more than 250 words) describing an obstacle or challenge that the applicant has endured or overcome in pursuit of an education, training, or preparation for a career and future. For scholarship funds to be awarded, applicant must be enrolled in the specific vocational course of study approved at an accredited university, college, academy, or community college.
