Art Fundamentals: Concept to Creation
The Art Fundamentals service-learning course aims to develop students artistic skills, teaching and mentoring abilities, as well as cultivate caring community relationships and an overall awareness of the importance of arts education.

The hands-on teaching and mentoring opportunity allows students to reinforce their art-making skills, while gaining insight into larger issues of educational inequality. Students notice how art strengthens confidence, creates joy/amusement, and builds community. When teaching art to elementary school children, the service-learning component also gives college students the opportunity to reflect on and cultivate their mentorship and leadership strengths. With this reciprocal relationship, through art making, we have a great opportunity to make a difference in the world around us.
