Introduction
Dominican has a 44" Wide Format Printer available for use by selected students. With a maximum Resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi, the Epson Stylus Pro 9800 is used by Art students for it's quality resolution. With the large format, it is used for academic poster presentations. What is the Turnaround Time for Prints?
Reserve the printer in advance: turnaround time is three days.Who Can Use this Resource:
Our high quality, large format printer is only available to the following groups of people:
- Digital Art students in classes that requires large format printing. See below for payment details.
- Students/Faculty with professional academic poster presentations. Must be approved by advisor. See below for payment details.
- With special approval by the Provost or Academic Affairs Department.
At this time this printer is not available for general use at Dominican. Once we understand the operational issues associated with this new and expensive to operate device, we will consider expanding access. But as of 10/11/2006, only the above groups may use the system.
Who Pays for the Materials for This Resource:
The materials (archival quality ink and paper) for this printer are EXTREMELY expensive. Kinkos charges between $6 per square foot for cheap paper and $15 per square foot for higher quality paper. Dominican charges $6 per square foot due to the fact that we are using high quality archival inks which are considerably more expensive than the inks used at Kinkos.
The following groups of students get the following printouts paid for by their academic division:
- Digital Art students can print during class but must pay for their own prints using their Penguin Pass Card. The cost is $6 per square foot. Special paper must be supplied by the student or the Digital Arts Instructor.
- Students/Faculty with poster presentations can print 13 square feet with approvals. (A 'standard' poster size is 46" wide and 40" high, which is 13 square feet). All poster presentations will be printed on Doubleweight Matte paper. Each department will be billed for prints made by their students/faculty and approved by their academic advisor. Each student/faculty receives one print. If they wish to reprint they must pay for any subsequent print jobs with their Penguin Pass. Additionally, in rush cases where the advisor is not able to approve the print in time, students/faculty may opt to pay for the print themselves with their Penguin Pass Card.
