This page provides an overview of how to get files printed on the large format printer. Audience: users who wish to submit jobs to be printed. (For technical information on how to run the printer itself, see the page the How To's in this sidebar navigation for this section.)

  • Due to the technical complexities and costs for mistakes, students are not allowed to use the printer themselves.
  • If you are participating in a Digital Art class, the professor may conduct a printing class where he/she will assist you in printing.
  • All other printing is done by appointment and is managed by the Dominican Printer Assistant.  Students are required to be present for their appointment to insure that the color of their image looks correct before it is printed.
  • Students/Faculty printing for academic posters must submit an online request to use the printer.
  • Turnaround time is three days.

Here are the steps to print

  1. Get approval from your professor or faculty advisor.
  2. If you are paying for the print job yourself, you must add $ to your Penguin Pass.  This can be done online at http://my.dominican.edu or at the cash machine in the Library.
  3. Get your image 100% ready in the software you plan on using.  The image size, color and output features must be configured BEFORE your appointment.  We only support Adobe Photoshop PSD/JPG files and Microsoft PowerPoint files at this time.  If you have a different file format, please note this in your printing request but be aware that we may not be able to help and you may have to convert the file before your appointment. You can see the complete list of file requirements on the print request form (available shortly.)
  4. Different printers will print images with different inks and saturations, so always check the image on the monitor hooked up to the large format printer before your job is sent to the printer to check for color. The monitor has been calibrated to be as close as possible to the output from the printer, but 100% color consistency cannot be guaranteed.
  5. You must have your Dominican e-mail address setup and working.  Requests must be submitted with a valid @students.dominican.edu e-mail address.  If you do not have a working @students.dominican.edu address, you must visit the IT Department and get this working.
  6. Go to http://www.dominican.edu/query/technology/lfprint.php and make a request for an appointment.
  7. If your advisor is not one of the professors who help the students print (exclusively Digital Arts students), the Printing Manager will confirm with your professor/advisor whether you are authorized to print.
  8. When the the Printing Manager receives confirmation that you are authorized to print, you will be notified you of the date and time for your appointment.
  9. Arrive to your appointment on time.  If you are late, you will move to the back of the line for that day.
  10. Make sure you bring your file on CD, DVD or USB Drive AND bring your Dominican Photo ID.
  11. Your image will be previewed on the screen.  Once you approve the preview, your printout will commence.

There will be no refunds or reprints for printouts that do not look the way you want unless there was a valid technical reason for the inconsistency.

We do not provide laminating services.

At this time we do not have a large straight edge cutting table.  So any trimming you may need to do will have to be done elsewhere.  We are working on finding a solution for this situation.
