As of Fall 2005, FontReserve is managing all the fonts in the maclab. FontReserve is server-based, which means that all the maclab machines have access to the exact same fonts. In other words, all the fonts that you use in the lab actually live on the maclab server. Each individual machine in the lab has a FontReserve client installed. This client lets individual users activate or deactivate selected fonts for specific types of work.
There are two main groups of users for the FontReserve clients. One is the habit group and the other is the maclab group. The appropriate group is automatically activated in the FontReserve client when you login to either account on a mac in the lab. Users in each group can create sets to manage which fonts they'd like to use for their projects. Note that default fonts are activated automatically for each group, so most of the time it isn't necessary to fiddle with FontReserve at all. Only proceed to create new sets according to the instructions below if you need access to a font and you don't currently have it showing up in your font list within your applications.
