Notes from the Chair

Change is in the Air!
This is the time of year when the days get shorter, autumn breezes blow, and the rains come. We shift to indoor occupations- baking, cooking, holiday preparations, handcrafts. We also look back and celebrate the” harvest”. Here in the occupational therapy we are celebrating our recently graduated occupational therapy students who have passed their boards and are embarking on their professional careers. They have truly reaped benefit of their long hours of study, and we know they will do well! We also look ahead to new plans. We recently received grant funding to develop two international learning opportunities for students and faculty in 2012. Dr. Janis Davis will be partnering with the department of education to take students and faculty to South Africa in summer, 2012 to work with high school students on issues of occupational justice, and I will be co-leading a trip to Sweden in late May, 2012 with nursing faculty and occupational therapy students and faculty to learn more about their culture and health care systems. There are lots of other changes in the air, and I will use this section of our webpage to keep you informed about them, as well as to share reflections with you about occupation and occupational therapy.
