The Department of Occupational Therapy prepares students for practice, leadership, education, and research in the profession of occupational therapy. Our curriculum develops ethical, competent practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to thrive in changing healthcare environments.

The department features an innovative educational curriculum, combining rigorous and comprehensive professional preparation with a focus on community practice. Our small classes promote close interaction between faculty mentors and students. Interwoven throughout the program are diverse field placements and community partnerships.

The curriculum is built around themes emphasizing occupationally grounded, client- centered, and evidence based practice; psychosocial dimensions of human occupation; consideration of socio-cultural and political aspects of occupation; and occupations in community contexts.

Through the curriculum, the student is guided through the stages of preparation, exploration, competence, and achievement, so that mastery is achieved in the practice of occupational therapy.

Dominican offers a five-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Health Science and the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) degree for students entering at the graduate level.

The Occupational Therapy Program at Dominican University of California is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE - 4720 Montgomery Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814-3425; P. O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220; phone 301-652-2682).
