Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE)

The Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) is a state-sponsored, competitive teacher incentive program designed to encourage outstanding students to become California teachers in a range of critical teacher shortage areas and in several types of high need schools.

Administered by the California Student Aid Commission, the program assumes up to $11,000 or more in outstanding educational loan balances over the course of four consecutive years of qualifying teaching service.

For more information regarding APLE and how to apply, please visit the California Student Aid Commission’s website.

IMPORTANT: You must apply to the APLE program before receiving your initial teaching credential or specialist credential. We recommend that students submit an APLE application as soon as they begin their program of study to ensure that space is available.
