Supervisors

At Dominican’s Ukiah Center, teacher candidates are supervised by practitioners who have expertise in elementary, secondary, and special education. University supervisors are carefully selected, oriented to the supervisory role, trained in supervision, and certified. They are experienced in either teaching the subject(s) of the class and/or grade level. Each supervisor also serves the important role of liaison between the university and the schools and districts in which they supervise teacher candidates. They are knowledgeable about each school’s culture, and play an essential role in the success of each teacher candidate whom they supervise.

Our supervisors provide unparalleled daily and weekly support for the teacher candidates under their care and:

• Know state-adopted student academic content standards
• Know the state’s teaching performance expectations
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with other educators
• Use a variety of strategies to engage all students in learning
• Create and maintain effective classroom environments for student learning
• Teach standards-based lessons related to reading, writing, and language instruction within content areas
• Differentiate instruction and assessment for English learners and students with special needs
• Share subject-specific materials and ideas, and
• Hold valid teaching credentials appropriate to the classroom/course
