South Africa Project

In 2007 Dominican’s School of Education and Counseling Psychology initiated a project in which teacher candidates were sent to South Africa to work in math and science classrooms with 9-12 grade students living in poverty.  These students were being educated in a post-apartheid education system.

In the past five years we have expanded this program in partnership with Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.  Dominican students from the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, School of Health and Natural Sciences, and School of Business and Leadership work together in interdisciplinary teams in township public high schools to improve the academic and life skills for 9-12 grade students.

The project runs every July-August for approximately four weeks.
