Subject Matter Requirement for Student Teaching
Single Subject candidates
- All sections of the appropriate CSET Single Subject exam; or
- 100% of an approved subject matter preparation program.
- Dominican is a CTC approved program for the following single subject areas
- Art
- Business
- English
- Languages other than English
- Mathematics, including Foundational-Level Mathematics
- Music
- Physical Education
- Science, including Foundational-Level General Science or Specialized Science
- Social Science
Multiple Subject candidates
- All sections of the CSET Multiple Subject exam.
Education Specialist candidates
- All sections of a CSET exam or 100% completion of a subject matter preparation program in a NCLB Core Academic Subject area:
- Art
- English
- General Subjects (Multiple Subject CSET only)
- Languages Other Than English
- Mathematics, including Foundational-Level Mathematics
- Music
- Science, including Foundational-Level General Science or Specialized Science
- Social Science
- [Holders of a multiple subject or single subject credential have already met this requirement.]
All candidates are required to take all sections of the CSET by the end of the 1st semester in their credential program. Accelerated candidates are required to pass this exam prior to the end of their first semester in the credential program. Transitions candidates are required to pass this exam prior to enrolling in Observation and Preparation for Supervised Teaching.
