Field Placement for Education Specialist Student Teachers (San Rafael Campus and Ukiah Center)

1. You will receive your school placement for observation from Dominican’s field placement coordinator (San Rafael campus) or program coordinator (Ukiah Center), no later than the first week of the semester.

  • School placements are based upon information you provide on the Observation Placement Request Form at the time of registration for EDUC 5150/5550 or EDUC 5250/5650. Student teaching candidates do not negotiate their own field placements.
  • If your work occurs in a non-public/private school, see the program policy on Participating in Non-Public/Private School in Chapter 7 of this handbook.

2.  During this semester, you will prepare for student teaching by observing and participating in classrooms and by working with Dominican’s field placement coordinator and/or your program coordinator to identify directing teachers and a student teaching assignment.
3.  You will complete a minimum of 60 hours of field experiences in addition to your student-teaching assignments.

  • Each field experience is connected directly with required coursework.
  • Culminating assignments for each course require that candidates work directly with students in special education classrooms.
  • Please refer to course syllabi for specific details of these field experience assignments.
  • Candidates currently teaching may use their classroom experience to satisfy some of these hours.

The following table illustrates the connection between courses and field experiences:
