The U.S. Department of Commerce's U.S. Commercial Service, is the federal trade promotion arm of the U.S. Government. It assists exporters of U.S. made products and services, particularly small-and medium-sized businesses, to expand international sales and create jobs in the U.S. Its services include trade counseling, business matchmaking, market intelligence, and customized solutions to ensure that U.S. businesses compete and win in the global marketplace. The U.S. Commercial Service's global network consists of offices across the U.S. and in over 80 U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.
In 2003, Dominican University of California’s School of Business and Leadership and the U.S. Commercial Service launched a unique government/education partnership whereby the North Bay U.S. Export Assistance Center established its offices on the University's campus. This partnership serves the local North Bay business community’s private sector companies through international trade related events on the Dominican campus. Commercial Service educational opportunities include such events as trade missions, trade shows, delegation visits, webinars, and customized business to business and business to government matchmaking services.
This partnership provides a venue for Dominican students and faculty, businesses and government to network and address specific trade related issues. The U.S. Commercial Service cooperates with the Institute for Leadership Studies to co-host events, which benefit U.S. exporters. The partnership cooperates with the Dominican’s MBA in Global Management as a hub for international education and research, internships and fellowships that support international business.
