Student Leadership Development

Dominican is committed to giving its students a cutting-edge leadership education. Institute for Leadership Studies offers a number of leadership development programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. The programs are versatile and one of them is bound to interest you.

Leadership programs:

Minor in Leadership Studies

The 18-unit Minor in Leadership Studies is a multi-disciplinary program providing students the opportunity to study and practice leadership from multiple disciplines, including both theoretical and experiential components, emphasizing active learning and community service.

The LeaderShape Institute 

LeaderShape Summer Institute at Dominican University of California isCluster Leadershpe.jpg an advanced, six-day, on-campus residential, ethics-based leadership development experience for young adults. LeaderShape Institute is an interactive, energizing, and unique experience that builds leadership skills no other program can match. It is six days of non-stop self discovery and learning from practical experiences that build your leadership concepts and abilities.

Dominican Leadership Learning Laboratory

Dominican Leadership Learning Lab (DLLL) provides Dominican's executive MBA in Strategic Leadership (MBA-SL) students with a living laboratory for the study of leadership development, plus serves as a community consulting service to organizations throughout the Bay Area.  Executive MBA students are assigned to Bay Area executives to provide an analysis of their 360 degree assessment of their Leadership Impact. It offers students the opportunity to practice consulting skills while increasing their understanding of the multiple dimensions of establishing constructive organizational environments and leadership strategies used to create such organizational cultures.

Dominican Community Sailing

Learning to lead and follow safely in a new environment. Our mission is to provide an opportunity to learn to sail or hone their sailing skills while becoming self-confident team leaders. Beginning sailing lessons will be offered during the spring semester by Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) with 30 years of Community Sailing.
Three Fridays beginning April 4th, 2014

Global Ambassadors

The Institute for Leadership Studies established the Global Ambassador Program in 2003. Global Ambassador’s is an academic organization that supports our International students and students with an interest in global affairs and the interaction of cultures. In addition we offer independent study opportunities from 1-3 units.

Leadership Practicum

Leadership Practicum offers students project management experience working in teams on business and community projects. Past projects have included clarifying a projects vision, environmental scanning, marketing and operational coordination, project management, canvassing customer and client interests, business plans and budgeting.

Panetta Institute for Public Policy

Each year, one Dominican undergraduate student is selected through a competitive application process to receive the Panetta Institute’s Congressional Internship.

Student Leadership Academy

The Student Leadership Academy is a co-curricular training program providing Dominican undergraduate students with opportunities to learn and practice leadership behaviors and skills. Workshops are offered nights and weekends. Please check back for the 2014 schedule.

Leadership Development Day

Dominican hosts this day-long event involving students’ clubs and organizations, as well as students from all parts of the Dominican community. 

Student Leadership Associations

A voluntary group of  LeaderShape Institute graduates who work for positive change within the campus and larger community by challenging and supporting each other to be pro-active leaders of change.
