The faculty of the Department of Political Science and International Studies represent a wide range of expertise and experience. Each faculty member is committed to providing students with a challenging learning experience informed by the most complete and current information available. Document Evan Bennett
Evan Bennett will join the adjunct faculty in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Dominican in fall 2008. He will be teaching POL 3410: Constitutional Law I.
Document James Boitano
Dr. James Boitano has taught at the collegiate level since 1968. He was raised in Seattle, Washington, and attended Seattle University where he received a BA degree in 1966 majoring in Political Science with minors in Philosophy, History, and Spanish. He received his MA degree in International Relations from the Graduate School of International Studies of the University of Denver in 1968. Following this, he taught for 2 years at The Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska before coming to Dominican in Summer of 1970 as the first Chair of the Political Science Department. After teaching for 7 years in Political Science and in the Humanities (helping develop Dominican's then-new Colloquium Program in the Humanities), he attended The Catholic University of America where he completed his Ph.D. in political philosophy. He returned to Dominican College and has served as Professor of Political Science, Chair of a Faculty Committee directing Faculty and Curriculum Development under the Buck grant, as well as several administrative positions including Chair of the Division of Global Studies and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (1995-98). He also directed the MA Program in Humanities (1995-98) and has been teaching courses in the Department of Politics and International Studies as well as the MA Program in Humanities. He served as the Pre-Law Advisor to students from 1990-2006. He was director of a Faculty Development Center on campus: Center for Collaboration, Learning, Innovative Education, and New Technologies (CLIENT) until his retirement from full-time teaching May 2006.
Document Paul Clarke
Dr. Clarke will join the adjunct faculty in the Department of Political Science and International Studies in fall 2008. An active duty Air Force officer from 1987 to 2007, Paul Clarke served in academic and intelligence positions. His overseas duty include: Korea, Colombia, Mexico and Qatar. He served on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House, including a tour as a White House spokesperson on foreign affairs. He taught at the Air Force’s Command and Staff College and served as the Associate Dean of the Asian Language School at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA.

Document Christian Dean
Dr. Dean started teaching at Dominican University of California (then Dominican College of San Rafael) as an adjunct instructor in the fall of 1996, after having spent a year as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Loyola Marymount University. He joined the full-time faculty in the fall of 1998, at which time he also assumed the role of Department Chair of Politics & International Studies. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2004.
Document Gigi Gokcek
Dr. Gokcek joined the department in fall 2006. Prior to arriving at Dominican University of California, she worked as an assistant professor for the School of International Studies at University of the Pacific. She is the department advisor for Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honor Society). In her spare time, Dr. Gokcek enjoys running, conversing in Turkish, Spanish, and French, and traveling with her husband.
Document Alison Howard
Ms. Howard began teaching at Dominican University of California in spring 2004.
Document Robert Proctor
An adjunct faculty member at Dominican since 2003, Robert Proctor teaches courses in political science and international relations. He is also on the faculty at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College. Prior to joining the faculty at Dominican, Robert was a member of the U.S. Foreign Service with overseas tours as a diplomat and political analyst in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. He headed the Political Training Division and chaired the African Area Studies program at the Foreign Service Institute, the Department of State's training facility in northern Virginia.
Document David Weinsoff
David Weinsoff has been an adjunct member of the Dominican University of California faculty since fall 1997, teaching POL 3430: Environmental Law. He is an environmental attorney in private practice, representing public interest groups in litigation involving the federal Clean Water Act and the California Coastal Act. Since being elected in 2005, he has served as a member of the Town Council in the Marin County community of Fairfax. In his limitless free time, he founded and currently serves as co-Director of the Fairfax Documentary Film Festival.
