VoteSmart Challenge and TeamHealthCare
The VoteSmart Challenge is an event planned for convocation at Dominican University of California October 25, 2008. The challenge is to provide information about the Republican and Democratic parties’ position (or platform) on Education, Ethics, Environment, Economics, Foreign Policy, and Health Care; and to present this information so that it enhances the knowledge of students, faculty and staff, and our friends and neighbors. The goal is to make each of us more informed voters in the general election, November 2008.
For each issue, the poster, the presentation, and any other activities are facilitated by a faculty member and the work and presentations done by students. Each team has support from a library specialist and TeamHealthCare (THC) has the
added benefit of support from an information technology specialist and a photographer / videographer. This is a competition and the winning team will receive a free trip to Washington, DC.

As part of the project, TeamHealthCare is also conducting a research study and using the information to guide the more specific topic of Health Care Coverage. To access and complete this 2-minute survey, please go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=DfOSu1JnOigRRIOvBnsf_2bg_3d_3d.
As of August 5, 2008 there have been 363 respondents. Many of the responses include concerns, stories, and ideas about health care coverage. THC is delighted with the initial data and plans to publish research findings at the end of the project.
Eventually, THC will have a website - www.teamhealthcare.dominican.edu. This website will include background information, platform information, videos and photographs, research results, and links to help one better understand the platforms, and will remain live at least until after the election.
THC must also give very special thanks to our benefactors, Dr. Robert Zucker and Dr. Gary Pollock. They are generously supporting this project and helping THC to create a program which will not only be informative but creative, interesting, and absolutely outstanding!
We hope that you will join us October 25th, 2008, 9:00 am, Angelico Hall, Dominican University of California to learn more about the issues and to vote for the most informative team. Watch for the evaluation questionnaire at the event and be sure to complete it before you leave. This will help us to know if we have been successful and your thoughts about the process. Then in November go to the polls and vote smart – you will definitely be a more informed voter!
