Graduate Program

This is an exciting time to advance your education! Be ready when new opportunities present themselves by having your masters and Advanced Practice Degree. Think Graduate Nursing – Think Dominican University of California.

Our graduate program offers a combination of curriculum that no other school in the bay area offers, the Nurse Educator, Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) / Nurse Educator, and the Integrated Health Practices CNS / Nurse Educator. All of our graduates are qualified nurse educators! Our graduate curriculum offers Registered Nurses the opportunity to prepare themselves as true nurse leaders, nurse educators, nurse researchers, consultants, and clinical specialists. Our program addresses today’s changing healthcare system and three major demographic trends:

  1. The needs of an aging population

  2. The urgent need for nurse educators

  3. The integration of complementary and alternative therapies into mainstream health care

Working-nurse friendly, Dominican MSN classes are held on alternating weekends (Friday evenings and all day Saturday). Schedules are predetermined for 3 years. Clinical placements are flexible and individualized. Faculty are friendly and accessible, and the class sizes are small (typically 10 – 12 students).

Completion of the program, including clinical hours, results in eligibility for Advance Nursing Practice licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist through the California Board of Registered Nursing and as a Certified Nurse Educator. The Dominican Graduate Nursing Program follows guidelines defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing for Clinical Nurse Specialist status and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Three tracks – many options to earning your MSN!

Accelerated ADN to MSN (full or part time options)

Dominican is pleased to announce our new, accelerated program. Registered Nurses with an associate’s degree may earn their master's degree in as little as three years. The final degree in this program is a master’s degree in one of the two specialty areas offered.

Traditional graduate program (full or part time options)

In the traditional graduate MSN program, the Registered Nurse enters the program with a bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) and is able to complete the program in as little as five semesters, or 21 months.

  1. Nurse Educator (37 units/400 teaching hours)

  2. Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) / Nurse Educator (45 units/500 clinical and nurse educator hours)

  3. Integrative Health Practice CNS / Nurse Educator (45 units/100 hours of CE or certification hours/400 clinical and nurse educator hours).
