Our Mission:

The Department of Counseling Psychology prepares students to provide psychotherapy, counseling, consultation, education, training and client-centered advocacy emphasizing recovery-oriented care. The program emphasizes student-centered and collaborative learning. The curriculum is designed to provide students with skills for working effectively with diverse populations utilizing the most recent developments in the major theoretical orientations from evidenced-based treatments to alternative and innovative approaches. Students are encouraged to practice with empathy and sensitivity, work with clients' strengths, and build client resilience.

The Master of Science in Counseling Psychology at Dominican University of California prepares students to provide professional counseling, consultation, case management, education, and training to a wide variety of clients. Graduates of the program are: marriage and family therapists, consultants, case managers, educators and trainers in healthcare, academic and business settings.

The Counseling Psychology program was established in 1978 and its graduates are known and respected for their professionalism, high degree of academic knowledge, and clinical and professional skill. The faculty and staff are committed to keeping abreast of the changes and emerging opportunities in the field of counseling. All clinical faculty are licensed, practicing psychotherapists.
