Community Music School

For almost 100 years the Dominican University Department of Music has offered music lessons to the Marin County community for all instruments and voice. The Community Music School seeks and develops the potential for each individual student regardless of age with encouragement and personal interest. Some of the students have attended Dominican University or other schools such as Julliard as music majors and others have cherished their musical training throughout their lifetimes.

The Curriculum

Private lessons are offered in all instruments and voice. Students wishing to enroll should contact the Department of Music and Performing Arts for proper assignment to a teacher.

A two-semester period of study consisting of a series of fifteen lessons is followed. Lessons vary in length from thirty to sixty minutes depending on the level of the student.

Besides the commitment to excellent musical training, the Dominican University Community Music School is committed to the individual student. Each student is encouraged to realize his/her personal potential by participating in the school's public recitals in the fall and spring. The recitals are important for they demonstrate to the teacher, student, and the parents the progress the student has made during the year.

Enrolling in the Dominican Community Music School

Contact the program manager or chair who will arrange a meeting with an appropriate teacher. An application form and a non-refundable fee of $10 is due at the first lesson.

Fees vary depending on the teacher and the ability of the student from $375-$525 for fifteen thirty minute lessons and $750-$900 for fifteen one-hour lessons.
