Dr. Gokcek joined the department in fall 2006. She is the department advisor for Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honor Society) and the 2012 Teacher of the Year - Dominican University of California.

International Relations and Comparative Politics
Dr. Gokcek is a political scientist who researches and teaches in the areas of international relations and comparative politics, and offers a number of courses on World Politics, United States Foreign Policy, Politics of Developing Countries, Politics of the Middle East, and Research Methods. Her political science scholarship focuses on security and development issues, including the internationalization of ethno-religious conflicts, irredentism and secessionism. She is also active in pedagogy, and conducts research on using popular movies, as well as other forms of engaged learning in the instruction of political science, and international studies. Her publications can be found in: Indian Journal of Economics and Business, International Journal of Public Policy, Journal of Political Science Education, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, and Security Studies.
