Dominican Communication and Media Studies Major Alumnus Produces Video For Smoke Free Living

Dominican alum, Brandon Florez '12, Communication and Media Studies with a concentration in Cinema, was recently tapped for his videography and film editing skills to help produce a video for Bay Area Community Resources and the Marin County Health Department to promote education and awareness for smoke-free housing ordinances. Patrick Cayabyab '13, will be heading off to the University of San Francisco for an MA in Sports Management and Paul Olszewski '13, will be setting out for the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, to study for an MA in Psychology. Congratulations!


2014 Grad, Brock Beall, In The Zone Down Under

During Winter Break of his senior year at Dominican, Communications and Media Studies Major, Brock Beall, was extended an opportunity to move down under to Perth, Australia. While in Australia, Brock is playing and coaching for The East Fremantle Lacrosse Club, the oldest lacrosse club in Australia. The club is currently competing for the Western Australia Lacrosse Association Grand Final that occurs in September. Beall says that the move to Australia has “offered unique life lessons, and in just the short time that I have been here, has allowed me to learn from experiences that many people do not get to have right out of school.”

Student Broadcaster Leads Pro Baseball Telecasts

Alex Swan Broadcasting Pacifics Baseball 2014

Alex Swan has been tapped to call play-by-play behind the microphone with Penguin Radio and behind the camera with CMCM TV for live public television broadcasting of the San Rafael Pacifics’ independent minor league 2014 season through Dominican's Summer Media Internship Program. Alex's rise to this position was preceded by his award winning broadcasting of Penguin Athletics Basketball. Just 10 games into his radio play-by-play career with the Penguins last season, Swan showed his award-winning potential through a description of a thrilling last-second, buzzer-beating, game-winning basket by Dominican senior guard Myles Carrillo in overtime against Azusa Pacific in the Conlan Center on December 5th. Mariah Chinchilla, Class of 2014, Communications and Media Studies Major, hired at NBC Universal in New York

Less than two weeks after she walked on stage for Commencement to accept her BA degree in communications and media studies at Dominican, Mariah Chinchilla is stepping onto a bigger stage. She is going to work for NBC Universal in New York City as a marketing coordinator. "It's just too perfect the way it is happening and I can't be anything but grateful," Chinchilla says.
