Student Associations

Political Sciences Banner

In addition to a wide variety of clubs and activities available on campus, the Department of Political Science and International Studies has three main student associations that compliment the courses of study in the Department. As a Department, we are always looking for ways to give our students as many opportunities while at Dominican as well as help them develop a professional network for the future.

Pi Sigma Alpha

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. At present, there are nearly 700 Pi Sigma Alpha chapters on campuses across the country. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

The Dominican University of California Alpha Delta Omicron Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was established in fall 2006. Applicants must have completed a minimum of ten semester-credits of coursework in political science (including at least one upper-division course) with a B average in those courses.  Applicants must also have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

There is a one-time initiation fee of $40, and no annual dues.

Phi Alpha Delta

Phi Alpha Delta is the world's largest law fraternity, with over 265,000 members worldwide. The Dominican University of California Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta was established in spring 2005 with 14 initiates, and it continues to grow considering the increasing interest of students in the legal fields.

While Phi Alpha Delta focuses primarily on law school endeavors, students from a variety of fields who do not intend to go to law schools have joined the association. Phi Alpha Delta focuses on serving the profession, school, student, and community.

Dominican Political Science Association (DPSA)

The Department of Political Science Student Association (DPSA) organizes social and educational events for all students in the department as well as for the entire Dominican community.

Through special topic forums, movie/game nights, panel presentations, and hosting of a variety of guest speakers from the Bay Area, DPSA encourages its members to both have fun and explore ideas and opportunities that will further their academic and professional careers.
