Graduate Liberal Studies Symposium 2013

Dominican University of California will host the Seventh Annual Joint Graduate Humanities Symposium to take place June 21-23, 2013.

The conference is an opportunity for graduate humanities students to meet and present their research. 

GLS Joint Symposium


The Graduate Liberal Studies Joint Symposium was started in 2007 by Stanford University and Dominican as a way to bring together graduate liberal studies students, alumni, and staff for a weekend of social and intellectual interaction. Since 2008, the symposium has grown to include participants from seven west coast schools and Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

The Conference

The Conference will begin Friday afternoon, June 21, 2013. After registration, there will be a reception with an informal dinner.  On Saturday, panel presentations are scheduled all day. Lunch is included. On Sunday morning, panel presentations continue with a concluding group meeting.

Accommodations 

Dorm rooms are available for 1 or two nights at $99 a night for a single or $77 a night for a double. This includes dinner in Caleruega Hall Friday and Saturday night and brunch Saturday and Sunday. To arrange a room, please inform your Director.  

Accommodations at local hotels have not been blocked, however, you may contact the Sheration (415) 479-8800, Embassy Suites (415) 499-9222 or Panama Hotel (415) 457-3993 to check availability. If not staying in a dorm room, we advise reserving accommodations soon as there is a major NASCAR (car race) event in Napa on June 22, and we have been advised hotel space will become scarce. 

 

After providing the information above, to complete your reservation, you will need to pay for the room in advance either online (Buy now option below), or by check. Your reservation will be complete when your credit card payment or check clears.

Transportation

For easy transportation from the Oakland Airport, the Sonoma Airport Express runs every two hours, with a stop at the San Rafael Transit Center:

The Marin Airporter (415) 461-4222 has a shuttle from San Francisco International Airport to the San Rafael bus depot for $20.00 cash only each way.  It is a short cab ride from there to Dominican or the suggested hotels, if rides cannot be arranged.
