San Maco Gallery Large

 

San Marco Gallery located in Archbishop Alemany Library serves the local community and the greater Bay Area with exhibits of contemporary Fine Arts produced by professional artists who have distinguished themselves professionally by the production and quality of their work. The mission of the gallery is to support the curriculum of the Art Department providing hands on resources for art students, artists, and the university community. San Marco Gallery offers students professional artistic exposure and supports the Art Department and its mission seeking to foster greater participation with the gallery, art department and interdisciplinary initiative and collaboration with other departments within the community.

Karrie Hovey’s exhibition  “...the Garden Grows” will be on display Oct. 26-Dec. 23 in the Alemany Library’s  San Marco Gallery  at Dominican University of California.

 

An opening reception for the award-winning installation artist, who teaches at Dominican and lives in Mill Valley, will be Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m. in the University library. Hovey also will give an artist talk on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 2:30-4 p.m. in the San Marco Gallery.

 

Hovey studied Computer Science at the University of Vermont, her home state, then transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York to study Graphic Design. In 2002, after years of working as a professional designer, Hovey returned to study sculpture at San Francisco State where she received her MFA in 2005.

Last year Hovey was awarded a career development grant from the Marin Arts Council.

 

Viewing hours for “Karrie Hovey: ....the Garden Grows” will be 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 2-10:30 p.m. on Sundays.
