Vision Quest: A Program of Discovery

Is it okay to be Undeclared at Dominican?

Yes! And to help you decide on a major, Vision Quest provides a unique program for incoming first-year students who are exploring academic, career, and social options. If you're not sure about a major, have no clue about a career, and wonder where you're headed, Vision Quest may be for you!

What are the highlights of the Vision Quest program?

  • You will be enrolled in two high-demand courses that are linked. Both classes satisfy general education requirements and must be taken fall semester. Depending on your schedule, you will take
      -EITHER-
RLGN 1010: Christian Themes in Film (3 units) and SCS 1002: Cultural Anthropology (3 units)
      -OR-
PHIL 1000: Classics of World Philosophy (2 units) and PHIL 1108: Ethics: an introduction to ethical theory in Western philosophy (3 units)
  • You will be enrolled in Vision Quest Seminar, a class that focuses on major/career exploration (enrollment limit of 25 per section).
  • You will meet various department chairs who will visit the Vision Quest Seminar class to explain their programs and describe career opportunities within their majors.
  • You will learn goal-setting, time management, and good study skills.
  • You will learn how to complete a four-year degree plan.
  • You will explore and identify personal values, interests, and skills.
  • You will interact with more students and faculty than you would if you did not participate in Vision Quest.
  • You will have the opportunity to take a faculty member to lunch.
  • You will participate in extracurricular activities to learn how your life can be enriched.
  • All students in the Vision Quest program work with the same academic advisor and the same career counselor.

How do I sign up?

If you would like to enroll in the Vision Quest program, you cannot declare a major at the beginning of Fall semester. Then be sure to check "yes" at the bottom of the first page on your Reply Form (where you are asked if you would like to be enrolled in the Vision Quest Program).
