Disability Services

What is the University policy for students with disabilities?

Dominican University of California is committed to providing effective, reasonable accommodations to qualified students with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act. Reasonable accommodations are provided to remove barriers that unfairly deny students with disabilities the opportunity to access the University's programs, services, and activities. The Academic Advising and Support Center provides guidance to assist students with disabilities in their academic pursuits.

What services are provided for students with disabilities?

Accommodations for students with disabilities will be determined on a case-by-case basis. However, available accommodations may include the following:

  • Special testing arrangements (i.e., extended time for exams, alternative testing location)
  • Readers, note takers, scribes
  • Individual advising
  • Referral and liaison to state rehabilitation agencies
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Access assistance for students with mobility impairments
  • Priority Registration
  • Other services as needs are identified

How do I get accommodations if I have a disability?

You must provide the Office of Disability Services with appropriate documentation of your disability from a licensed professional. Documentation must define the nature of the disability, provide a detailed description of how you are limited by the disability, and clearly state the specific accommodations recommended to help you achieve academic success. To schedule an appointment to discuss your accommodations and how they will be managed, call Kathryn Mulholland at 415/257-0187.

Does Dominican provide testing and assessment for learning disabilities?

We do not provide testing or assessment. However, we can refer you to an appropriate outside agency or professional individual.

How wheelchair-accessible is your campus?

Most classes and activities are held in Alemany Library, Bertrand, and Guzman Halls. There are two elevators on campus, one in the library and one in Bertrand Hall. The dining hall called Caleruega is accessible by wheelchair. Edgehill Village, our new residence hall, has a number of rooms that are accessible by wheelchair. The Conlan Athletic Center is also completely wheelchair-accessible.
