A Welcome from the Chief Academic Officer

Luis Maria R. Calingo, Ph.D.Welcome to our website. As you explore these pages and come to know more about our teaching and learning, you will see why Dominican is a university where students thrive.

The mission of the Dominican University of California is to educate and prepare students to be ethical leaders and socially-responsible citizens who incorporate the Dominican values of study, reflection, community, and service into their lives.  We seek to distinguish ourselves through innovative, value-added education and memorable student experiences. We have enjoyed a century-long reputation for excellence in scholarship, research, and community outreach.

We offer more than 60 programs of study that reflect the diversity and creativity of our faculty and students. With over 2,200 graduate and undergraduate students, we are able to successfully blend personal direction and small classes associated with smaller schools with the academic resources of a larger university.

Guided by our Catholic heritage, we are committed to diversity, sustainability, and the integration of the liberal arts, the sciences, and professional programs. Dominican’s focus on engaged learning and interdisciplinary studies provides a challenging academic environment. In the sciences, we excel at involving undergraduates in sophisticated research projects that enable our students to present at academic conferences nationwide and publish alongside their faculty mentors in peer reviewed journals. In the humanities, our students can combine dance and musical performance with the study of philosophy, literature, world cultures, and religion. We also offer strong undergraduate professional programs in business, education, and nursing and graduate offerings that prepare our students for leadership roles in these disciplines, as well as counseling psychology and occupational therapy.

If you are new to Dominican, I hope that this virtual visit makes you want to come see us in person. If you already know us, please visit this site often for latest news from campus.

Sincerely,

Luís María R. Calingo, Ph.D.
