Field of Dreams Newsletter March 2009
Dominican University of California is planning to build a new 110,000 square-foot outdoor athletic complex in preparation for its move to NCAA II in September 2009. Project news and updates follow:
| Calling All Students and Recent Graduates |
David Ramirez is the president of the Associated Students of Dominican University. He wants to see athletic facilities that will meet the needs of all students.

"Dominican Athletics has enjoyed a winning tradition for many years, and now the University is stepping up its game. This is a new era for the Penguins--students are excited, alumni are excited. Victories are won not only on the court and on the field, but in the stands.
Dominican's upcoming move to NCAA II shows an institutional commitment to both academics and athletics. Alongside our already-impressive reputation for the quality of our academic programs, a strong athletics program builds pride and school spirit and supports student recruitment and retention efforts.
Our Field of Dreams is on its way to becoming reality. We have waited a long time for outdoor facilities worthy of the athletic program Dominican has built. Finally, our athletes will have an all-weather field that allows them to practice and play safely and competitively year-round.
I ask you to join me and Dominican in promoting the importance of a healthy body and a healthy mind. Join the campaign for Dominican's Field of Dreams today!"
Our vision is "years of productive play for better people, a better University, and a better community."
Our mission is "to build it."

Jon Delano '03, head women's soccer coach and director of athletic development, has seen the Lady Penguins do what others have said is impossible: they've turned Forest Meadows into a home field advantage. "Other teams can't play a technical game on our field. They struggle to acclimate to the bumps and unpredictable bounces. Dominican adjusts to get the best from our players--we just don't lose on our home field."
Yet, despite their ability to turn Forest Meadows to their advantage, Coach Delano knows his team has the potential for so much more if given the proper environment. "Our players should expect the best because that's what we're expecting from them," he says. Many of Dominican's opponents have NCAA regulation all-weather synthetic turf fields. "Parents and opposition coaches have commented that we're a fun team to watch on a good surface," says Coach Delano.
In fact, the Lady Penguins have garnered the respect of several NCAA coaches who have added the team to their non-conference schedule. The team is returning all 11 starters from the 2008 season, including NAIA All-American and back to back Cal Pac Conference Player of the Year, Ellie Mendez.
The Lady Penguins are moving from the Cal Pac Conference of NAIA to the Pacific West Conference of NCAA II in Fall 2009. They want to maintain their home field advantage on a new field--Dominican's Field of Dreams--and they're already doing their part by volunteering at fundraising events and selling tickets for the Dominican Car Raffle, benefiting the Field of Dreams.
Help give them a true home field advantage by making your gift today.
