The Huey D. Johnson
Environmental Scholarship
The Huey D. Johnson Environmental Scholarship provides annual scholarship funding for students enrolled in the MBA in Sustainable Enterprise (GreenMBA) program. This merit-based scholarship will be available to domestic and international students whose families or governments can provide only limited financial support.
The Huey D. Johnson Environmental Scholarship was created at Dominican in honor of Huey D. Johnson. Mr. Johnson is the founder and president of the Resource Renewal Institute, a nonprofit organization that incubates ideas and practices for environmental sustainability.
Mr. Johnson is a leading voice for Green Plans, a comprehensive and integrated approach to protecting and managing natural resources in use by the European Union and a growing number of countries.
From 1976-1982, Mr. Johnson served as Secretary of Resources for the State of California where he conceived and implemented "Investing for Prosperity," a hundred-year plan for managing the state's natural resources. The California plan has already achieved lasting gains in forest restoration, salmon recovery, water and wetlands conservation, and renewable energy, and formed the basis of Johnson's advocacy on behalf of Green Plans. He is also very active in national and international organizations dedicated to conservation.
In 2008, Mr. Johnson received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Dominican University of California in recognition of his career of service to the environment.
