Dominican University of California's Green Statement:
Dominican University of California will model and instill the values, theories and practices of reverence, interdependence, sustainability, social justice and stewardship into the entirety of its learning environment. The Dominican learning environment encompasses the education programs as well as maintaining green working and living spaces, and adopting policies and business practices that minimize our environmental footprint. Dominican University strives to increase the awareness, knowledge, skills and sense of purpose within our students, faculty, staff and community to best meet the needs of the present, while creating a future that is just and sustainable for all.
We created the Center to tap the wealth of intellectual capital in place at Dominican in order to support existing and emerging “green” programs. The Center identifies and promotes economically viable green business practices and serves as a think-tank for ongoing green projects on a community, regional, and global level.
Using an integrated, systemic approach the Center engages in collaborative research, program development, and public education programs designed to help business and society adapt and thrive in a sustainable environment
The Center also provides forum to bring together all Dominican green programs and initiatives (both internal and external), on a regular basis in order to share best practices, strategize on research and action plans designed to promote environmental sustainability, and identify new projects
Housed in the School of Business and Leadership, the Center is a collaborative made up of a consortium of environmentally-focused entities and/or programs including principal partners:
The Center has formalized a regular meeting schedule (no less than one meeting per month) so that the above-referenced principal partners can meet and collaborate on projects designed to promote environmental sustainability. All other internal Dominican faculty and staff (not already included in the programs referenced above) that are engaged in programs or research focused on the environment and/or environmental sustainability should also participate in Center meetings, and will be invited to attend Center meetings as appropriate to their interests.
Dominican's School of Business and Leadership took the lead in establishing this Center given our core purpose of educating students to be socially responsible leaders of sustainable organizations that make a positive difference in the world.
