Insurance
Students can be seen in the Student Health Center regardless of what health insurance plan they are covered by; however, if additional diagnostics tests or prescriptions are recommended, the student and his/her insurance carrier will be responsible for these costs.
In today’s increasingly complex health care environment, it is imperative that students be familiar with the specific coverage, requirements and limitations of their individual insurance plan. Although the staff can offer assistance, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to determine insurance coverage for diagnostic tests, hospitalization, etc.
The Student Health Insurance plan will be offered through Kaiser Permanente for the 2011-2012 school year. Information about this plan is available online at http://studentnet.kp.org Choose “Dominican University” in the drop down link.
Coverage in the Dominican Student Health Plan is mandatory for students that are signed up for 6 units or more. Students can waive coverage if they can provide proof of healthcare coverage through another plan.
It is the student’s responsibility to either enroll or waive coverage in the health plan by September 23, 2011 or February 10, 2012 for students entering the spring semester or those with a change in status.
Medical coverage for the Student Kaiser Plan runs from 8/15/11 – 8/14/12. All students who wish to waive the Student Health Plan must do so on-line by the posted deadline. Proof of medical coverage will be required. Students failing to waive coverage will automatically be charged for the plan, and will need to complete the enrollment form as soon as possible.
