ELS Conversation Program

ELS Language Centers, located in Pennafort Hall, has been on the campus of Dominican University of California for over 20 years. We are dedicated to teaching English to international students.

Over the years, ELS has helped thousands of international students from 140 countries around the world learn English quickly and effectively. The mere presence of these students on campus helps to internationalize and diversify the university.

The majority of ELS students are studying English in order to pursue academic goals like earning their bachelor’s or master’s degree. Many of our students attend Dominican after finishing their intensive English studies.

Purpose

  • To greatly impact our students' experiences in positive ways
  • To help improve international students' English skills
  • To help them feel like they are part of the community
  • To encourage them to learn about USA and Dominican culture
  • To meet international students and create long lasting friendships
  • To learn a new language from another country

Conversation partners are encouraged to meet at least once a week for about an hour. Students coordinate meeting times and places. ELS also hosts special events for the program, and works with clubs and departments on campus to organize exciting activities.
