Services for Students

We welcome you to the residence halls at Dominican University of California.  We hope that we have provided you with the necessary information and answers to many questions.  Please feel free to contact the Housing Office if you have further questions.  If no one is available to take your call, please leave a message and we will be in touch as soon as possible.  We look forward to seeing you in August.

Airport Transportation

  • Marin Airporter

The Marin Airporter provides transportation to and from the San Francisco International Airport via the San Rafael bus depot.  Hours and rates vary by season. For further information, contact them at www.marinairporter.com or  (415) 461-4222.

  • Sonoma County Airport Express

Sonoma County Airport Express services Oakland International as well as San Francisco International via the San Rafael bus depot.  Oakland is often easier and cheaper to fly from depending on your destination. Hours and rates vary by season. For additional information call 800-327-20204 or visit them at www.airportexpressinc.com Taxi service is available to and from the bus terminal.

  • Marin Door to Door

Banks

There are many banks within walking distance (1/2 mile) from campus.  Banks with branches in the San Rafael area include:

  • Wells Fargo
  • Bank of America
  • Citibank
  • Redwood Credit Union
  • Union Bank of California

Bicycles

There is covered bicycle storage available outside of Pennafort and Fanjeaux in the walkway.  It is highly recommended that you bring and use a strong lock and cable for security!  There is no bicycle storage outside of Meadowlands or Edgehill Village.  You won’t need a bike to get around campus.

Emergency Supplies

In addition to basic first-aid supplies, we recommend having a small emergency kit that is portable and easily accessible (a backpack or duffel bag works great).  This pack should include the following items:

  • bottled water
  • power bars (non-perishable snacks)
  • warm sweater and socks
  • 3-day supply of prescription medication
  • rain poncho (large plastic garbage bag works great)
  • spare glasses/contacts if possible
  • note card with family/emergency contact numbers (out of state numbers may be easier to dial during emergencies).

Health Care

The Student Health Center (SHC) is open during the workweek and is directed by a Nurse Practitioner.  Please be sure you have your Medical Information Form on file with the SHC.  If you did not complete this form, please make arrangements at the SHC after you arrive.

Mail

You will need to visit the mailroom to get your mailbox (MSC) # and your key/combination.  All mail sent to you should be addressed as follows:

Your Name – MSC #_____
Dominican University of California
50 Acacia Avenue
San Rafael, CA 94901

Parking

All students who bring a car to campus will be required to register their vehicle with the Housing Office.  You will be given a decal to place on your rear window so that your car is identifiable as a student vehicle.  In accordance with the City of San Rafael parking compliance agreement, students MUST register any vehicle being parked on campus.

There are a limited number of reserved parking spaces in the residence hall lots – most of these spaces have already been assigned to continuing students.

Students without a reserved parking space are able to park in the Conlan Recreation Center lot and in other designated lots around the campus. Students may NOT park their vehicles on any of the neighborhood streets surrounding the campus, especially Palm and Olive Avenues.

Storage

There is VERY LIMITED storage space on campus. Students should plan on being able to store all of their belongings in their room.  Dominican University of California is NOT RESPONSIBLE for theft of student items from rooms.

Technology Info (phone, TV, internet)

Each room is equipped with a phone line, basic cable TV, and high-speed internet.  Students are required to bring their own phone and cord, Dominican will maintain the phone line/jack.  Local calls (Marin County) are free, but you will need to have a calling card for long distance service.  Your phone number will be given to you during Orientation.  If you bring a TV, please be sure to bring a standard cable cord.  Also, you will need an Ethernet card & cord for your computer if you plan on using the University’s internet service.  MAKE SURE all of your cords are at least 10-feet in length – it will help tremendously when setting up your room.
