Student Health Center
The Student Health Center at Dominican University of California is committed to quality care and the promotion of optimal health. We encourage disease prevention and health awareness in our student clients. The Health Center is staffed by a nurse practitioner who has advanced education in primary health care and an emergency medical technician / coordinator. They work in collaboration with a physician consultant. Services at the Health Center are available to all students enrolled at Dominican University of California.

Although not required, it is prudent for a college student to be fully immunized for hepatitis B, and chickenpox. Hepatitis B and meningitis vaccines are available at the Health Center for a fee, but it is recommended that students be immunized by the health care provider at home to facilitate insurance coverage for the vaccines. If you have questions regarding these vaccines, the Center for Disease Control and the American College Health Association Web sites with the most current recommendations and information.
Insurance
Students can be seen at the Health Center without health insurance, but if additional diagnostic tests or prescriptions are recommended, the student or his/her insurance carrier will be responsible for these costs.
In today's increasingly complex health care environment, it is imperative that students be familiar with the specific coverage of their health insurance. Although the staff can offer assistance, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to determine insurance coverage for diagnostic tests, hospitalization, etc.
The Student Health Insurance plan will be offered through Kaiser Permanente for the 2008-2009 school year. Information about this plan is available online at http://studentnet.kp.org or http://studentnet.kp.org/dominican. Here students will find specific information about the cost and the coverage of the plan.
All students enrolled in 6 or more units will be charged for student medical insurance on the bill due August 1, 2008. Students must either enroll or waive the coverage online.
Open Enrollment is available from July 7, 2008 to August 31, 2008.
All students who wish to waive the Student Health Plan must do so online no later than August 31, 2008. Proof of medical coverage will be required. Students failing to waive coverage will be automatically charged for the plan, and will need to complete an enrollment as soon as possible.
