Registrar, Advising and Placement Issues

Registrar's Office

When Are Proficiency/Placement Tests Administered?

Most new students took placement tests in writing and math during the summer. If a student still needs to test, refer him/her to the open session for placement testing on Friday, August 20, 9:30 a.m., in Library 211.

Computer competency exams will be administered every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings during the fall semester at 5:00 p.m. in the Teaching Learning Center, Bertrand 110.

How Do I Find Out Who My Advisor Is?

Direct students to the advisors in Bertrand 109 and 110.

Class Schedules - Where Can I Obtain One?

Class schedules are available 24/7 on the DUC website. Information is updated weekly, and more often during the first weeks of the term. Class schedule information is posted outside the Registrar's on the first floor of Bertrand Hall, in the main lobby of Guzman Hall, and in binders in the Library and Registrar’s Office.

Wait Listing For A Class - How Do I Do That?

The Registrar’s Office makes every attempt to fill open seats from the waiting list right up to the last day of Open Registration. If there are still some students who did not get an available seat by the start of the term, each instructor with a waiting list will receive a roster of students who had hoped to enroll. It is up to the instructor’s discretion whether or not to allow students on the waiting list to enroll. Each waitlisted student must submit an Add form for the waitlisted class in order to become enrolled. The Add form must include the instructor’s signature on the “instructor” line, indicating her/his permission to enroll in the class.

Remind students that it is their responsibility to add and drop all courses by the published deadlines.

Where Do I Find Out Where My Classes Meet?

Students should not call their advisor to find out where a class meets. What they should do is check the schedule board outside the Registrar's Office or check the Dominican University of California website.  Students may also call X3244.

Holds On Registration

There are a variety of reasons why a student may have a HOLD on her/his registration, including the following:

  • MISSING DOCUMENTS, such as transcripts from other schools, unsigned financial aid award letters, or missing academic contracts;
  • FINANCIAL—The Business Services Office will place a hold on the registration of any student with an outstanding balance. Holds are lifted when the student clears her/his account; or
  • MISSING SIGNATURES OR PERMISSION, such as the advisor’s signature is missing from a form, or the student has left a signature space blank.
