Guide to Commencement

Make sure you have

  • Picked up your maximum of six tickets for Commencement seating in case of rain. Tickets are available in the Office of Admissions, Bertrand Hall
  • Purchased your Academic Regalia (Gown, Hood, Mortarboard) in the Bookstore
  • Thought about ordering the Commencement Video. Click here for Order Forms.

 

Thursday, May 15

Rehearsal

  • Line up outside Angelico Hall by 8:30am
  • Pick up card with your name on it at table near the Kiosk at the corner of Acacia and Olive. The Dean of your school will read your name from the icard when you hand it to him/her at Rehearsal.
  • Alumni Relations Office will provide juices, pastries, and fresh fruit at Angelico
  • We will walk to Forest Meadows Amphitheater along the same route we will follow on Commencement morning
  • Rehearsal should end by 11am

 

Friday, May 16

Baccalaurate Mass (Commencement Mass)

  • Celebrated at St. Raphael's Church on Fifth Street in Downtown San Rafael
  • Mass Begins at 3pm; Should end by 4:30pm
  • Parking will be difficult. There is a parking lot at Fifth and "B" Streets
  • Do not wear Academic Regalia
  • There is no procession
  • Families and friends, including non-catholics, are invited to attend Mass

 

Saturday, May 17

Commencement

  • Arrive at Angelico no later than 9am
  • Caleruega will be open for a Continental Breakfast. Guests may purchase a Continental Breakfast
  • Pick up the card with your name on it at the table near the kiosk at the corner of Acacia and Olive, near Angelico Hall. You will hand this card to your Dean who will read your name as you walk across the stage to recieve your Diploma Cover
  • Line up with your school; Arts and Sciences, Business and Leadership, or Education. Each of them will be close to Angelico
  • The walk to Forest Meadows Amplitheater will start at 9:30am
  •  Commencement will start as soon as everyone arrives on stage, perhaps as early as 10:20am
  • Gates open at 8am at Forest Meadows for guests
  • Commencement should end by 12:30pm
  • Reception follows outside Amphitheater
  • Make sure you keep a copy of Commencement programs. They are recycled after the ceremony
  • Remind your guests that there is no shade at Forest Meadows and that they will be sitting on Hard Wooden Bench-style seats
  • We will have paramedics on hand for guests who cannot handle the stress of sitting in the sun/heat for over two hours. Last year four persons required emergency care and were hospitalized

Rain plans for Saturday Commencement

  • Commencement will take place at Conlan if there is Heavy Rain. Line Up in the Long Corridor near the Weight Room in Conlan. Pick up your card with your name on it inside the Multipurpose room (in the same corridor) Someone will direct you to the place where your school's graduates are lining up
  • Students will sit on chairs on the gym floor as weill faculty; guests will sitin the bleachers
  • In case of rain; there will be a reception at Caleruega after the ceremony
  • Warn guests of slippery conditions
