Ripple Effect: Small Faith Communities

RippleLogo.jpg

Faith Communities are small groups of students (from 3 to 7) who gather each week to read, reflect, and respond to the weekly scriptures from the upcoming Sunday Mass.  Although we use the Catholic Lectionary, students from all faiths are welcome to come together to share common values, concerns and support from fellow students.

In reflecting on the gospel reading of the upcoming Sunday, we learn together how to incorporate gospel values into our lives as college students, young adults, and people of faith.

 "This I Believe"

"This I Believe" is a popular feature of NPR radio.  Campus Ministry is using this format to ask students, faculty and staff members to write/share an essay stating what they believe.  These essays are shared with the community.  Hosted by a student with guest speakers, the dialogue, debate, and discussion help us to understand one another and the world in which we live.

Tuesday:  6:30 p.m., Veritas Room

Bible Study

Various opportunities are available for Bible study.  Study can be done in organized groups, or done individually.  The Campus Ministry Office provides material for those who are interested in scripture study.  Organized groups include:

  • ESL Bible Group: Mondays, 4:00 p.m., Veritas Room
  • Basic Bible Study:  Wednesdays, 8:30 p.m.--Veritas Room
  • Ripples Bible Study:  See information above

Confirmation Preparation

Many students desire to receive the sacrament of Confirmation while they are attending the University.  Classes are held during the academic year which help to prepare the student for the reception of the sacrament.  At the end of the preparation, students can elect to receive Confirmation in their home parish, or at a special liturgy on Pentecost Sunday in the Cathedral of Mary our Queen, San Francisco.

Classes:  Thursday, 7:15 p.m.--Veritas Room  Contact: Sr. Carla Kovack, OP
